MediaLab Terms of Use
Terms of Use for the MediaLab
By using the rooms or equipment of the MediaLab, you accept the House Rules of the University of Vienna and the MediaLab's Terms of Use.
§ 1 General Provisions
(1) These Terms of Use govern the use of the rooms and on-site equipment of the MediaLab of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna, UZA II, Rotunda, Staircase H, Level 1; Josef-Holaubek-Platz 2, 1090 Vienna, hereinafter referred to as the MediaLab.
(2) It is not possible to reserve the rooms for entire courses or for an entire semester.
(3) The on-site equipment and furnishings of the MediaLab are the property of the University of Vienna.
§ 2 Usage Fees
(1) Use of the MediaLab is subject to a fee. The prices depend on the duration of use and the equipment and rooms required. A cost estimate can be requested by email at medialab.philkult@univie.ac.at.
(2) Use is free of charge for employees of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies and their project partners or student assistants, as well as for students writing a master's or doctoral thesis at a department of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies.
§ 3 Opening Hours
(1) The MediaLab is open for use during the hours displayed on site or published online.
(2) Use outside opening hours is possible by prior arrangement with the management of the MediaLab. Users of the MediaLab will receive electronic access cards for the respective areas. These electronic access cards are valid only for the MediaLab. The general opening hours of UZA 2, Josef-Holaubek-Platz 2, 1090 Vienna, must be observed.
§ 4 Usage Requests
(1) Requests to use the rooms and on-site equipment of the MediaLab must be submitted in writing to the MediaLab's email address (medialab.philkult@univie.ac.at), stating the desired duration of use. Allocation is based on the fair-use principle: users who submit their requests first generally have priority. In the case of simultaneous requests, priority is given to users who have previously received fewer usage periods.
(2) Cancellations of previously submitted requests to borrow equipment or use the MediaLab must be sent to the MediaLab's email address at least 3 days in advance. If a cancellation is not submitted or is not submitted in due time, the management of the MediaLab is entitled to exclude the persons concerned from borrowing equipment or using the MediaLab in the future.
(3) The management of the MediaLab decides on the use of the rooms and on-site equipment on a case-by-case basis. There is no legal entitlement to use the rooms or on-site equipment.
§ 5 Use
(1) The House Rules and safety regulations of the University of Vienna apply in the rooms of the MediaLab and in the adjacent grounds and rooms attributable to the University of Vienna.
(2) The MediaLab may only be entered and exited via the underground car park or Level 2 of UZA 2. The emergency exits in the MediaLab are intended solely for evacuation in emergency situations and must not be used as entrances or exits, and in particular must not be used for smoking. Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire MediaLab area. Emergency exits and escape routes must not be obstructed.
(3) The University of Vienna does not provide staff for the use of the MediaLab. Users are responsible for operating the equipment themselves. Training on the technical equipment is provided through group workshops, the dates of which are announced on the website. In special cases, individual training sessions must be arranged in writing with the management of the MediaLab.
(4) Users must ensure that the rooms of the MediaLab are locked without exception when leaving. Upon completion of the work, the rooms of the MediaLab must be left in proper condition. Users must ensure that the lights are switched off and the windows are closed. Users are prohibited from granting access to the MediaLab to persons who have not been expressly authorised to enter by the University of Vienna.
(5) If several workstations in a room of the MediaLab are occupied at the same time, users must show due consideration for one another.
(6) All furnishings and equipment of the MediaLab must be handled with care and used only for their intended purpose. Drinks may be brought into the MediaLab, while food may only be consumed in the corridor/foyer. Violations may result in an immediate ban on use. If a user discovers any damage to equipment or furnishings during use, this must be reported to the University of Vienna without delay. In the event of theft or deliberate damage by third parties, this must be reported both to the University of Vienna and to the police.
(7) Users are liable to the University of Vienna for any damage they culpably cause to the equipment or furnishings of the MediaLab in accordance with the provisions of the Austrian General Civil Code (ABGB), whereby slight negligence is expressly sufficient. Conducting an entire course in the MediaLab is generally prohibited unless prior written consent has been granted by the University of Vienna.
