The Screening and Post-screening discussion with the film directors of ‘To be Continued (尚未完場)’

07.05.2025

A documentary co-produced by Hong Kong Community Heritage Foundation (HKCHF) and Walk in Hong Kong

Description:

The film is a chronicle of the grassroots effort to save the iconic State Theatre in North Point from demolition. The evocative documentary is also a deep dive into the eye-opening story of Harry Odell, the theatre’s founder and Hong Kong’s first impresario, who brought Xavier Cugat, Isaac Stern, and other legendary musical figures to the city. Rich with local history, the story of the State Theatre and Harry Odell is a celebration of Hong Kong’s dynamic culture and indomitable spirit.

Supported by the Institute of East Asian Studies, the film screening and subsequent event were well attended by numerous spectators from the University of Vienna and beyond. The spatial conditions of the MediaLab stage (an event space of the Faculty of Philology and Cultural Studies) and its surroundings provided a diverse yet comfortable atmosphere, thus facilitating a convivial discussion.
